Christian Compassion Baptist Church

Salvation
Mission
Show Love with Compassion. Serve with Compassion. Share Jesus Christ with Compassion.
Vision
Be a church that applies God's Word to every area of our lives: spiritually, physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
What We Believe
We believe the Holy Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God. Supreme, infallible, inerrant rule in doctrine and godliness. It is the complete revelation of God's will for; the salvation of mankind, the maturity of His followers, and the believer's responsibilities in preparing for His Return. It is truth. The guideline and Christian standard for morality, relationships, worship, conduct, and behavior.
We believe the Bible consists of the Canonical collection of 66 books from Genesis to Revelations.
We believe it was penned by men who were divinely/supernaturally inspired by the Holy Spirit of God to do so (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
We believe in Creation. God created mankind and every living being as described in the Holy Bible (Genesis 1:1).
We believe marriage was designed by God to be between one man and one woman for as long as they live (Genesis 2:18-25; Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:18-32).
We believe Judaism is a foundational and important component of early Christianity (John 1:17; 5:46; Romans 8:3-4).
We believe the Bible teaches a distinct difference between the Church and the nation Israel, however, both will benefit from certain covenantal blessing not assigned exclusively to Israel (cf. Romans 11).
We believe the Church began at Pentecost (Acts 2).
We believe in divine healing, however, we are cautious of those in the "faith-healing" industry who profit off of the innocent with promises God did not speak.
We believe every saint has been given at least one gift by the Holy Spirit for the building of His kingdom and the edification of the saints (Romans 12:3-8; I Corinthinas 12:12-31).
We believe in a pre-tribulational Rapture of the church (I Thessalonians 4:13-18).
We believe in both a literal Heaven and Hell.
We believe in angels, heavenly hosts, the devil (Satan), and demons (fallen angels).
We also believe...
The Trinity is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. One, yet equally distinct in function and purpose.
In Dispensational Theology.
In the doctrine of the hypo-static union which teaches that Jesus Christ was fully God while simultaneously being fully man. He is true God, was true man and the divine revelation of God to man. He was manifested in the flesh, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
All men are born sinners and stand in need of God's plan of salvation offered "only" through His Son, Jesus Christ.
In "compatibilism" which teaches a unique blend of both "free-will" and "predestination" as the means by which man receives regeneration. This view opposes the doctrines of "Reprobation' and "Hyper-Calvinism" which teach a fatalistic view of election and salvation.
Jesus Christ bore our sins in His own body on the "tree", making provisions for all men to receive the forgiveness of sins through His one time, satisfactory sacrifice and atonement.
In the bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave, His ascension into heaven, His present ministry of intercession for believers; His personal, visible, promised, and imminent Return; His glorious millennial reign and the ushering in of a new heaven and earth.
All saints will reign with Christ during His Millennial reign following the Great Tribulation.
Jesus Christ is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and is on His way back!

History
Christian Compassion Baptist Church Inc. CCBC was founded by the late Pastor Samuel E. Slaffey in October of 1984. CCBC first service was held at Sister Elizabeth Beckett’s house (2000 s 8th Street) In 1985 CCBC moved to Brother Henry Linder & Sister Constance Linder’s house (5th & Snyder Avenue) In 1986 CCBC moved to Lovely Baptist Church (700 McKean St) as CCBC continued to grow, in 1987 CCBC moved services to St Luke United Methodist Church (401 Snyder Avenue). In 1990 CCBC joined the North American Baptist Conference Atlantic Association. CCBC continued to grow in membership, as a result, our growing congregation was able to purchase our own building in May of 1992, the CCBC members marched into 1608-12 Point Breeze Avenue. CCBC became actively involved in the community. During the years CCBC started ministries to help with Christian Growth and to serve the community. The ministries were Vacation Bible School, known as VBS, Clothing Giveaway (including hot homemade meals Monday through Friday. 10a - 4p), Women’s ministry/Women’s Day, Prison ministry, Way of Life Evangelism Team, Camp Compassion (children’s summer camp), Sunshine Brigade (daycare Monday through Thursday) ages 2 to 5), Kitchen ministry (Sunday meals prep), Noah’s Ark (Halloween substitute ministry)
Amachi (mentorship for children of imprisoned parents) a satellite of the former Mayor of the City of Philadelphia Wilson Goode Jr, Urban Youth Institute this was after school youth program to help with homework and social interaction, Girl Talk from the of ages 12-18 learning how to cook, sow and arts & crafts) Singles ministry, Eden Ministry (married and engaged couples), Sunday children’s nursery and Sunday school/Christmas caroling that would sing Christmas songs in the community and invited our community to hear a word from the Lord, fellowship, and served Hot chocolate.
In January of 2001 CCBC was able to celebrate our Mortgage Burning service. CCBC continued to serve and trained leaders to fulfill the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20.
In 2020 CCBC had to close its doors like other churches due to the pandemic. During the pandemic, squatters and robbers broke into the church and lived in CCBC until February of 2023. In January of 2023 our founder the late pastor Samuel Slaffey was called home from labor to reward. Before our founder went home with the Lord, our founder appointed a new senior pastor, Rahiam A. Bango on February 23, 2023, and the CCBC 1999 Board of Directors reaffirmed the church resolution on July 6, 2023. Pastor Bango and others were able to remove the squatters from the building. The squatters had destroyed the building during the three years of living in the church. They had stolen the pipes from the walls and created a major flood. Pastor Bango prayed and sought the Lord for direction concerning His church and His people. Pastor Bango was able to reorganize the CCBC board of directors with six new board members to help further the mission and vision of CCBC. Our mission for CCBC is to: Show Love with Compassion, Serve with Compassion, and Share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with Compassion.
Our vision is to be a church that applies God's Word to every area of our lives: spiritually, physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
Pastor Bango submitted a four-phase project called the Priority Plan to revitalize the church from Hebrews chapter 11 the hall of fame Faith to ask By Faith partners to partner with CCBC to help rebuild, restore, reorganize and reconnect CCBC for the kingdom of God. Pastor Bango believes this Faith partnership can rebuild and restore the Lord's church debt free.
In Phase 1 of the Priority Plan, we were able to raise over $40,000 in seven months. We were able to pay off the electricity bill and get the lights turned back on, decrease the gas bill, installed a new security system, new roof, and 21 new windows. As a result of the partnership with By Faith Partners and trusting in the Lord, all these projects were paid in full.
We held our first worship service online on February 26th, 2023, because we could not meet in person. We continue to meet online every Sunday at 10:00 am and Wednesdays at 12:00 noon for Bible Study. We also meet weekly outside of the church for Evangelism and Community Engagement.
We have made our mission not to let the building stop us from doing what God has called us to do. To name a few, we have adopted a women's shelter, hosted our third annual back to school giveaways, gave out gift cards so families can feed their families during Thanksgiving, and Christmas Toy Giveaways.
What’s happening now.
Currently, we have started Priority Plan Phase 2. In this phase, our goal is to get the building move-in ready. Once the first floor is completed the members and the community can fellowship again after the church has been closed for over five years. Pastor Bango and the CCBC 2023 Board of Directors reached out to a project manager to find out how they could help CCBC move forward to get CCBC moved-in ready. After meeting with the project manager, the CCBC board of directors agreed to hire the company.
The project manager was able to have a building engineer come out to inspect the building to make sure it was safe and to start working on the building. The project manager was able to provide an architect to draw plans. Pastor Bango prayed to God on how to move forward concerning the church, congregation, and how to be a service to the community. Pastor Bango presented a drawing to the board and the leadership team that would glorify the Lord and edify the body of Christ. The CCBC board of directors approved the request.
CCBC has held several fundraisers to raise funds for the Rebuilding of CCBC. We have hosted Vendor Events and partnered with By Faith Partners to raise funds, however we have not met our goal yet.
CCBC currently meets every First Sunday of the month in-person for Sunday Worship and Communion Service at St Paul Chapel Baptist Church in South Philadelphia at 3:00 pm.

The Late Pastor Sam Slaffey & First Lady Betty Slaffey

In October 1966 at the age of 26 and in a drunken stupor, Sam Slaffey set out to commit a murder. He vowed to take the life of someone he thought had wronged him. Arriving at the intended victim’s home, Armand with a straight razor and a switch blade, Sam stormed in with loud profanities, but the mother of the intended victim was having a prayer meeting with about three other people. Sam had barged into a prayer meeting. That lady had led Sam to the Lord that very night.
Sam Slaffey became a member of Deliverance Evangelist Church under the pastoring of Pastor Benjamin Smith. In 1970 Pastor Slaffey was ordained by Rev.
